lab 1
Purposes:
- Measuring how much power each resistor absorbs and power supply delivers based on observations.
Instruments:
- Power Supply
- Breadboard
- Resistors
- Digital multimeters (DMM)
Procedure & Observed Data:
- 1. Record the total current passed through the resistors in the series circuit. Calculate the power dissipated for each resistor.
- 2. Record the two currents passed through each resistor in the parallel circuit. Calculate the power dissipated for each resistor.
Theoretical Formulas:
P = V * I = (I^2)R
Series Req = R1 + R2 for two resistors R1 & R2
Parallel Req = (R1*R2) / (R1+R2) for two resistors R1 & R2
Calculation & Error Analysis:
Series: R1 = 10 kΩ & R2 = 10 kΩ
Parallel: R1 = 100 Ω & R2 = 100 Ω
Conclusion:
This lab is basically measuring the efficiency of each resistor. For the series circuit, the percent error is between 0.77 % to 1.07%, and for parallel circuit, the percent error is between 0.20% and 0.80%. Therefore, the precision may be caused by the resistances we used and the systematic error in power supply .
